The Rural Development Department (RDD) of Bihar government manages key schemes focused on rural poverty alleviation, employment, housing, and infrastructure. Major Schemes List- RDD implements centrally sponsored and state schemes including MGNREGA, PMAY-G, Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), and BRLPS (Jeevika).

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act guarantees 100 days of wage employment per year to rural households for unskilled manual work on local infrastructure like roads and water conservation. It aims to enhance livelihood security in rural Bihar. Wages are paid within 15 days, with unemployment allowance if work is not provided. Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin):

Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushalya Yojna:

BRLPS (JEEVIKA)- Jeevika, officially known as the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society or BRLPS, is India’s largest state-level women’s socio-economic empowerment program. It operates under the Rural Development Department of Bihar and focuses on transforming the lives of rural women. The program mobilizes women into self-help groups, commonly known as SHGs, with the aim of improving their incomes, ensuring financial inclusion, and providing access to essential services such as nutrition and sanitation. The core objective of Jeevika is to reduce rural poverty by strengthening sustainable livelihoods and building strong community institutions.The program emphasizes financial inclusion, skill development, and empowering women to actively participate in public services and decision-making processes.One of the key features of Jeevika is its strong community-based institutional structure. Women are organized into self-help groups, which are further federated into Village Organizations and Cluster Level Federations. Jeevika has established more than twenty-five thousand Village Organizations, which play a crucial role in ensuring food and nutritional security by enabling bulk procurement of food grains. The program aims to cover nearly seventy percent of rural households by the year 2026. It also promotes digital financial inclusion and works in convergence with the National Rural Livelihoods Mission.
