Bihar bolsters its rural economy via robust programs in animal husbandry, dairy development, and fisheries. Key activities include animal healthcare, livestock production, fisheries infrastructure, dairy processing, disease diagnostics, animal welfare, and enforcement of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. These initiatives boost productivity, safeguard animal health, and foster sustainable livelihoods for farmers and rural communities.
The state has achieved strong sectoral progress, with ambitious targets through 2028: milk production at 128.53 lakh metric tonnes per annum, rising to 159.9 lakh metric tonnes; milk processing capacity at 48.55 lakh litres per day, expanding to 51.7 lakh litres per day; egg production at 34,400.5 lakh per annum, targeting 62,025 lakh; meat production at 4.04 lakh metric tonnes per year, increasing to 4.94 lakh metric tonnes; and fish production at 9.17 lakh metric tonnes per year, projected to reach 12.7 lakh metric tonnes.
