The Food and Consumer Protection Department of Bihar plays a vital role in ensuring food security and safeguarding consumer interests across the state. It is primarily responsible for providing food grains and essential commodities at subsidized rates to Priority Household (PHH) and Antyodaya families, thereby supporting the most vulnerable sections of society. The Department also undertakes key regulatory functions, including controlling prices, preventing black marketing and hoarding of essential commodities, ensuring the quality and proper distribution of petrol, diesel, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), and supplying subsidized kerosene oil to consumers. In addition, it facilitates procurement of food grains at Minimum Support Price (MSP), thereby protecting farmers’ interests and strengthening the agricultural economy.

The Department is equally committed to the protection of consumer rights and the promotion of consumer welfare. Its vision is to empower citizens to make informed decisions regarding their daily needs while ensuring fairness, transparency, and equitable outcomes. It actively works to address public grievances and enhance accessibility to information related to the distribution of food grains, kerosene oil, and LPG. Through these comprehensive measures, Bihar aims to build a robust and transparent public distribution system that ensures food security, consumer protection, and inclusive development.
